Anthony was nominated to be Student of the Month by his guitar teacher, Mr. Geo Suquillo, after having a wonderful summer camp participation. SpreadMusicNow wanted to recognize his hard work and efforts in sticking to the guitar during the past four years– he had just started with INTEMPO right before the pandemic and then he had to continue learning guitar through INTEMPO's online lessons. Anthony was also part of our literacy program and we love seeing him succeed at school! We are so grateful and proud of Anthony, his parents, and grandparents for bringing him to class every week. Anthony always has a smile and a happy and positive attitude when he is in guitar class.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who nominated you? How long have you been playing your instrument?
Hi, my name is Anthony. I am nine years old currently and I’m in fifth grade. My mom asked me if I wanted to play guitar and I thought that since no one else plays it in my family I should try it and give it a chance. I’ve been playing for 4 years and it’s been an amazing experience to be at INTEMPO. My suggestion to all parents is that you should have your kids go to INTEMPO.
What has music and your program taught you?
Music has helped me a lot. I’ve learned how to move my fingers fast. I’ve learned a lot of important things. I also learned about my parent’s home countries, Mexico and Colombia. Music is helpful because it teaches you new stuff and it’s kind of easy once you get the hang of it.
What is your favorite piece of music to play?
My favorite piece of music was probably the bachata medley we did. It was fun for me and I liked learning the patterns. It was cool.
What do you like to do for fun? Do you have any hobbies?
For fun, I either play music or draw. I usually go outside. Sometimes I like to stay inside and play some games or do math, since I like math.
What is your favorite subject in school? Why?
My favorite subject is probably math. I’m really good at it since my dad taught me. I can focus on that.
What are your plans for the future?
My future plans are probably to try and learn another instrument.
