Emily Soraluz is a 10th grade, first generation Latina violinist who attends Stamford High School. She began her musical studies at age 7 at the INTEMPO Music School, and is currently a violin student of Darwin Shen. Last week she had her orchestral debut with Orchestra Lumos at the Palace Theater in Stamford, CT. She performed for over 1,450 Stamford public school fourth grade students through our partnership with Orchestra Lumos and their music education initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you feel before, during and after the concert?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was extremely nervous before the concert, yet excited at the same time. I have never played as a soloist with an orchestra before, so this was a brand new experience for me. However, as I stepped on stage and started to play, my nerves calmed a bit after I told myself, \u201cIt\u2019s just me and the music\u201d. After the concert, I felt proud and happy about my performance and that I got the opportunity to inspire little kids. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much practicing did you have to do to be prepared for this?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had to practice a lot for this! I practiced an hour or two of this piece everyday. I only had about a month and a half to learn this piece (about 6-weeks). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does this saying make you think of: \u201cSuccess or luck is when preparation meets opportunity\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel that one should take every opportunity given to them. When I was offered this opportunity, I took it. Though maybe the opportunity being presented was lucky, I think preparation and the ability to meet the expectations of an opportunity is based on hard work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your musical aspirations for the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would love to go to Juilliard for a program or pre-college, and maybe even do music during college. Although I don\u2019t know exactly what I will do in the future, I know that I definitely want music to be a part of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfC\u00f3mo te sentiste antes, durante y despu\u00e9s del concierto?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estaba extremadamente nerviosa antes del concierto, pero emocionada al mismo tiempo. Nunca hab\u00eda tocado como solista con una orquesta antes, as\u00ed que esta fue una experiencia completamente nueva para m\u00ed. Sin embargo, cuando sub\u00ed al escenario y empec\u00e9 a tocar, mis nervios se calmaron un poco despu\u00e9s de decirme a m\u00ed misma: “Solo soy yo y la m\u00fasica”. Despu\u00e9s del concierto, me sent\u00ed orgullosa y feliz por mi actuaci\u00f3n y por haber tenido la oportunidad de inspirar a los ni\u00f1os peque\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1nto practicaste para estar preparada para esto?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a1Tuve que practicar mucho para esto! Practiqu\u00e9 una hora o dos de esta pieza todos los d\u00edas. Solo tuve aproximadamente un mes y medio para aprender esta pieza (aproximadamente 6 semanas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 te hace pensar esta cita: “El \u00e9xito o la suerte es cuando la preparaci\u00f3n se encuentra con la oportunidad”?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siento que uno deber\u00eda aprovechar todas las oportunidades que se les presenten. Cuando se me ofreci\u00f3 esta oportunidad, la aprovech\u00e9. Aunque tal vez la oportunidad que se me presentaba fue de suerte, creo que la preparaci\u00f3n y la capacidad de cumplir con las expectativas de una oportunidad se basan en el trabajo duro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
