We\u2019re thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of our talented student, Valeria, who recently toured Austria and the Czech Republic with the Norwalk Youth Symphony. Her talent and dedication have brought her onto the international stage, and it\u2019s truly exciting to witness them reaping the rewards of her hard work and passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long have you been playing with the Norwalk Youth Symphony (NYS)? Was this your first time touring abroad with them?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been playing with Norwalk Youth Symphony for about 6 years. It\u2019s honestly been such a great experience to be a part of NYS. We went to Italy in the summer of 2022 and it was really fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long was this trip and what countries\/cities did you visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trip lasted about 8 days, from June 23rd to June 30th. This year was a little different because we went to 2 countries: Austria and Czech Republic. In Austria, we went to Salzburg and Vienna, and in the Czech Republic, we went to Prague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What music did you perform at these concerts and what was your favorite city or venue that you performed in, and why? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music we performed at the concerts were classical pieces by Haydn, Rossini, Bartok, Elgar and Leroy Anderson. My favorite city would have to be Prague, despite the concert venue being small and cramped. It reminded me a lot of New York City. Everything about it was so beautiful, and the food there was really good!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In what ways has touring Europe with the Norwalk Youth Symphony influenced your musical goals and aspirations?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Touring Europe with the Norwalk Youth Symphony has definitely helped improve my orchestral performing skills. Performing three different times in three different places helped me develop my technical skills and adaptability. Touring with them has also exposed me to new cultures and broadened my understanding of different musical styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What advice would you give to other young musicians dreaming of similar opportunities? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would say to take every small opportunity as if it were a million dollars getting handed to you. For example, if you have the opportunity to audition for a regional competition or an orchestra near you; treat it with great importance. Another piece of advice is to assure yourself that you\u2019re well-prepared; you can\u2019t just show up to an audition without being prepared. Master your repertoire! Eventually when you\u2019re on tour, you want to be ready for performances. Also, build relationships with other fellow musicians, conductors, and educators, as these connections can lead to future opportunities. Lastly, maintain a positive mindset\u2013 it makes the experience more enjoyable and productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1nto tiempo llevas tocando con la Orquesta Juvenil de Norwalk? \u00bfEra esta tu primera vez en una gira al extranjero con ellos?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He estado tocando con la Orquesta Juvenil de Norwalk (NYS) durante unos 6 a\u00f1os. Honestamente, ha sido una experiencia incre\u00edble formar parte de la NYS. Fuimos a Italia en el verano del 2022 y \u00a1fue realmente divertido!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1nto dur\u00f3 este viaje y qu\u00e9 pa\u00edses\/ciudades visitaste?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El viaje dur\u00f3 aproximadamente 8 d\u00edas, del 23 al 30 de junio. Este a\u00f1o fue un poco diferente porque fuimos a 2 pa\u00edses: Austria y Rep\u00fablica Checa. En Austria, visitamos Salzburgo y Viena, y en la Rep\u00fablica Checa, fuimos a Praga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 m\u00fasica interpretaron en estos conciertos y cu\u00e1l fue tu ciudad o lugar favorito para tocar, y por qu\u00e9?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La m\u00fasica que interpretamos en los conciertos fueron piezas cl\u00e1sicas de Haydn, Rossini, Bart\u00f3k, Elgar y Leroy Anderson. Mi ciudad favorita tiene que ser Praga, a pesar de que el lugar del concierto era peque\u00f1o y apretado. Me record\u00f3 mucho a la Ciudad de Nueva York. Todo en ella era tan hermoso, \u00a1y la comida all\u00ed era realmente buena!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfDe qu\u00e9 manera ha influido la gira por Europa con la Orquesta Juvenil de Norwalk en tus metas y aspiraciones musicales?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estar de gira por Europa con la Orquesta Juvenil de Norwalk definitivamente ha ayudado a mejorar mis habilidades de interpretaci\u00f3n orquestal. Actuar tres veces en tres lugares diferentes me ayud\u00f3 a desarrollar mis habilidades t\u00e9cnicas y adaptabilidad. Adem\u00e1s, la gira me ha expuesto a nuevas culturas y ha ampliado mi comprensi\u00f3n de diferentes estilos musicales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 consejo le dar\u00edas a otros j\u00f3venes m\u00fasicos que sue\u00f1an con oportunidades similares?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les dir\u00eda que aprovechen cada peque\u00f1a oportunidad como si fuera un mill\u00f3n de d\u00f3lares que les est\u00e1n dando. Por ejemplo, si tienen la oportunidad de audicionar para una competencia regional o para una orquesta en su \u00e1rea, traten a esa oportunidad con gran importancia. Otro consejo es asegurarse de estar bien preparados; no se puede simplemente presentarse a una audici\u00f3n sin estar preparado. \u00a1Dominen su repertorio! Eventualmente, cuando est\u00e9n de gira, querr\u00e1n estar listos para las actuaciones. Adem\u00e1s, construyan relaciones con otros m\u00fasicos, directores y educadores, ya que estas conexiones pueden llevarles a futuras oportunidades.
