Early Childhood Music Instructor

Terry Hess is an early childhood music educator, studio musician, singer, guitarist, and djembe percussionist. She is an award-winning educator, with over 25 years of experience in both public and private schools throughout Connecticut, and teaches early childhood music in the preschool music program at the Saw Mill Club in Mt. Kisco.
A native New Yorker, she credits amazing music teachers for inspiring her own career in music education. She began studying jazz guitar at the age of 10 with jazz master Ray Gogarty. She received her B.A. in Music from the State University of New York at Oswego, and studied for her Masters in Music Education at Chicago Musical College.
She has composed, produced, and performed in numerous high-profile musical projects with and for children, actively involving children in the songwriting process and focusing on melodies that are culturally diverse. In addition, she freelances as a voice-over artist and narrator for CRIS RADIO, CT, specializing in air broadcast and pre-recordings of award-winning children’s magazines and educational material for the common core audio library. She has written and sung jingles for major corporations, and has written soundtracks for documentary films.
Terry received a Local Hero award from Parenting Magazine for her theme song Isn’t it Time. She is a member of El Sistema USA, and has taught music within the favellas of Brazil with Orquestando A Vida. She sings with the Martin Luther King Gospel Choir in Norwalk, CT, studies African drumming with master drummer Kojo Bey of Sounds of Africa, and is an avid R&B singer.
