INTEMPO In-School Programs

INTEMPO offers a school-based introductory program, designed to fit the students’ age, interests, and abilities. This program enriches the students’ music experience and inspires them to further pursue their music education and artistic expressions. The curriculum is cross-cultural and fulfills the national arts standards for music education. As an added feature, many organizations opt for a culminating public performance, where students can celebrate their accomplishments before an audience of family and friends. No prior music experience is required to join. We provide the instruments.

Our In-School Programs include New Arrivals, which focuses on helping to close the achievement gap among children immigrating to this country. The New Arrivals program reaches hundreds of students in Stamford Public Schools, allowing us to advance the educational equity of underserved children from immigrant backgrounds—a central tenet of our mission. Instruction builds music skills and uses song and ear training to facilitate English language acquisition. It also facilitates pro-social behavior and skills, socioemotional growth, community connection and participation, and performance abilities. It uses research-based curriculum that is aligned with the curriculum used by the schools’ ELL teachers, to help children become confident English speakers and engaged students.

We make music education relevant, inclusive and accessible through classical and intercultural instruments and repertoire and connect the dots between music and the overall development of children.
