Miriam Reyes

Latin and folk dance instructor

Miriam Reyes was born and raised in Lima, the capital of Peru. She grew up all the time surrounded by school teachers. She studied at the Marcelino Champagnat University, primary education and folklore and at the Higher Pedagogical Institute Victor Andres Belaunde, primary education.

Upon moving to Stamford Connecticut in 2005, she began working in Catholic schools such as St Aloysius school in New Canaan and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Stamford as a Spanish teacher, teaching the language as well as Latin culture and art. She has been a Latin dance and Zumba instructor since 2010. In 2013, she founded the Peruvian dance school Taller de Marinera Portal Norteño, together with the teacher Luis Trejo, with the aim of continuing to instill culture among children and young people. They have participated in different competitions and actively in the community.
