Susan Jimenez

Cello Instructor

Susan Jimenez is no stranger to the world of music. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she pursued her love of music at a very young age by attending a Fine Arts Magnet school, studying Chamber Music at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music while in high school, and studying with Harry Sturm, assistant principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony. At the tender age of 18, she attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music on a full scholarship where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in cello performance. From there she went on to study with David Wells at the Hartt School, University of Hartford, and then with Vagram Saradjian at CUNY, Queens College where she was awarded a master’s degree in Cello Performance

In 2011, she completed an intensive two-year program at the New York School for Strings where she learned how to teach cello using the Talent Education (Suzuki) Method. From there she attended the Suzuki Institute of Chicago to complete books 9 and 10 as well as a course designed to teach advanced students who were beyond book 10. Her students have achieved high levels of playing and have performed at the Manhattan School of Music, and Carnegie Hall.

Her love of music and teaching has allotted her many opportunities to travel. Some of her teaching experiences include being a guest teacher and conductor for the Youth Symphony in Panama, teaching at an IB Academy in Beijing, China, and as the head of the Suzuki Department at a Fine Arts Magnet School in Texas. As well as having a reputation of being an outstanding teacher she has also held a variety of performing positions throughout Connecticut that include being the Principal Cellist of the Norwalk Symphony, and performing with Bridgeport Symphony, Waterbury Symphony, New Britain Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony and Wallingford Symphony, the Musical Theatre of Connecticut, and performing Chamber Music at Steinway Hall in Manhattan.
