Vitor Sampaio
Guitar Instructor
Vitor Sampaio developed his musical background within Brazilian traditional music, such as choro and samba, and Southwestern countryside music. He played different plucked string instruments, such as viola caipira, cavaquinho and mandolin, and developed a strong formative experience in classical guitar performance.
Vitor is a member of Botelho-Genari, a guitar duo that comprises the six-string guitar, Brahms guitar and eventually the ten-string Brazilian guitar called viola caipira, performing a repertoire mainly based on transcriptions of pieces from Brazilian nationalist composers written for piano or orchestra such as Claudio Santoro’s Paulistanas and Villa-Lobos Bachiana Brasileira Nº4.
He has a degree in classical guitar from the University of São Paulo and successfully performed in solo recitals, with different ensembles, as a soloist with the university’s student orchestra (USP Philharmonic), and as an invited soloist with the city of Piracicaba’s Orchestra.
Music has always been a great part of his life and with the guitar he has had the opportunity to express himself as an artist and also contribute to his community by teaching and performing in educational concerts in public high schools. As a teacher, he believes that approaching music and performance as a field of knowledge has an invaluable potential in terms of education and development of human values.
Additionally, he is a graduate student and adjunct lecturer at Hunter College as well as a private teacher and performer in New York City.
